Rug Fastenings
When choosing a rug particular attention should be paid to the fastenings that are on the rug. The fastenings of a rug should be easy to fasten as well as strong enough that the horse cannot break them easy. At Ruggit Rugs the Rug fastenings we use have been tested on our own horses.

Washing your Horse Rug
Horse rugs can be washed in your washing machine if it is big enough. This is a good option for summer rugs, only use warm water on a gentle cycle. Ruggit Rugs recommends Leather Therapy's Saddle Blanket Wash and Rinse products, they leave your rug not only clean but with a fresh pleasant smell. For synthetic and canvas waterproof rugs the machine is not recommended, as it has the potential to shorten the life of the fabric waterproof treatment. These horse rugs can be hand washed or hung on the clothes line and cleaned with a hose or water pressure cleaner to blast dirt off.

Storing your Horse Rug
Horse Rugs should be thoroughly dry before folding and storing away until next season, this is also a great time to check over your rug and get any tears repaired and broken fastenings replaced. Ruggit Rugs offer a repair service. It is recommended to store your rug in a blanket box or similar container to prevent vermin and insects from damaging your rugs, throw a couple of moths balls in there as well.

Turned Out Horses |
|
If your horse is outside full time without a stable or run in shed, it may be helpful to have two turnout rugs. When you have many days of heavy rain an extra rug means you can switch and allow one to dry, it is also handy to have a spare rug when one rug needs to be repaired.
